LOCAL Assembly Member Nick Ramsay has welcomed news that a new route, via the recently completed A4810 Steelworks Access road, will be used for future closures of the M4 between Junctions 23a and 24.
Specific diversion signage will be put in place, directing traffic from the M4 on to the Eastern Distributor Road, towards the A48 Newport Southern Distributor Road.
Speaking on Wednesday, Mr Ramsay said:
“I contacted the Transport Minister about the use of the A48 after one of my constituents expressed concern about road safety at Parkwall Hill. Hopefully, this new route, which will be in place by May, will help reduce use of the A48 and make the road safer.
“If any serious problems remain once the new diversion route has been tested out, I will be happy to contact Monmouthshire County Council to establish whether any further safety measures can be implemented.”
