AM disappointed by response to Monmouth noise mitigation plea

MONMOUTH Assembly Member Nick Ramsay, who has been pressing the Welsh Government to take action to reduce noise and pollution levels on a stretch of the A40 at Monmouth, has been told that while the section of the trunk road has been identified as a priority area in phase 3 of the Government’s noise action plan, works in this phase are unlikely to commence before 2018/2019 at the earliest.

In the meantime, a design of a replacement surfacing scheme, aimed at reducing noise levels, on  the A40 from Dixton Roundabout to Gibraltar Tunnels, is currently taking place.

Commenting on the response from the Minister, Mr Ramsay said:

“It is very disappointing that residents will have to wait so long before this work is carried out. I know they are particularly concerned that the current situation could worsen if vegetation and trees are cleared to make way for the proposed Dixton retail site.

“| will continue to keep the pressure on the Welsh Government to progress this much needed scheme.”
