MONMOUTH Assembly Member Nick Ramsay has welcomed news that the Welsh Government is to review safety issues for pedestrians crossing the A40 between Dixton Roundabout and Leasebrook Lane.
Mr Ramsay wrote to the Minister for Economy, Science and Transport, Edwina Hart AM, after visiting the site and speaking to residents about their concerns.
“They told me it was becoming more and more hazardous to cross the A40 safely at this point and almost impossible to cross the southbound carriageway at certain times of the day because of the density and speed of the traffic approaching the roundabout.
“They said is was necessary to make a detour of 1.4 miles to the Wye Bridge underpass in order to cross the A40 safely on foot from Dixton Road to Dixton Church, Agincourt School and the Wye Valley Walk.
“There was a real fear that they were taking their lives in their own hands when crossing at this point.
“I am pleased that the Minister has promised to review the situation and hope that improvements will be carried out which will make this crossing safe for pedestrians. “
