Local Assembly Member, Nick Ramsay, last night attended the National Service of Commemoration to mark the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War. The service was held at Llandaff Cathedral, Cardiff, in the presence of Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and other dignitaries.
This morning Mr Ramsay also attended an event organised by Chepstow Town Council at The Drill Hall to mark the occasion of the 100th anniversary of “E” Company of the Monmouthshire Regiment heading for the Western Front.
Speaking today Nick said:
“I was pleased to have been able to attend both these very moving commemorative events in Cardiff and Chepstow.
“I know that many services of remembrance were held yesterday across Monmouthshire and the country to mark the centenary of the start of the First World War.
“It’s so important we continue to remember all those who gave their lives for us a hundred years ago and that we continue to learn from the lessons of the past.”
