LOCAL Assembly Member Nick Ramsay is drawing constituents’ attention to the Vodafone Rural Open Sure Programme, whose aim is to give up to 100 communities across the UK with little or no mobile coverage the opportunity to apply to have Vodafone 3G mobile coverage in their area.
Speaking on Wednesday, Mr Ramsay said:
”Vodafone has already run a pilot programme connecting 12 communities from Walls in the Shetland Islands to Newton St Cyres in Devon. These communities are now able to make calls and use good quality mobile internet, enabling local businesses to stay in touch with customers much more effectively.
“They are now looking for 100 more communities to benefit from this programme. Eligible communities can apply to take part and are encouraged to nominate a Village Champion to lead the application programme.
“I hope this scheme will be taken up, particularly by those people living in rural communities who have poor mobile phone coverage and are in desperate need of an improved service.”
More information and application forms can be found at www.vodafone.co.uk/rural. The closing date for applications is October 14th, 2014.
