MONMOUTH Assembly Member Nick Ramsay has called on the Welsh Government to take urgent action to improve the public toilet facilities at the picnic site and layby near the Gibraltar Tunnels on the dual carriageway outside Monmouth.
Mr Ramsay visited the site last Friday with Monmouthshire County Councillor Val Smith who has been campaigning for action to improve the toilets for some time.
Speaking today Nick said:
“These toilets are the only public conveniences in this area and are used by local people, commuters and tourists alike. They clearly do not give a good impression of Monmouthshire or Wales in their current condition.
“I believe some work was done on the roof several years ago but nothing since then. The water supply needs to be improved and better facilities provided, including a baby changing area.
“I’m asking the Minister for Transport, Edwina Hart AM, who has responsibility for this stretch of the A40 to prioritise an overhaul of these toilets and perhaps consider either a renovation or completely new build on the site.”
