MONMOUTH Assembly Member, Nick Ramsay has welcomed news that the toilet facilities at the picnic site on the A40 near the tunnels at Monmouth are to be reviewed.
Mr Ramsay wrote to the Minister for Economy, Science and Transport, Edwina Hart AM, to complain about the poor condition of the toilets after being asked by a local county council to meet her at the site.
Speaking today, Mr Ramsay said:
“I believe work was done to the roof of the toilet block several years ago but urgent attention is now needed as, amongst other complaints, the water supply is poor and there are no baby changing facilities.
“In their current state, the toilets give a poor impression of Wales and Monmouthshire, especially to visitors who stop on the dual carriageway to picnic and take a break.
“The Minister has stated that officials are currently reviewing the maintenance of Government owned public toilets on the trunk road network throughout Wales, including the facilities on the A40 near Monmouth.
“I hope it won’t be too long before the review is completed and that this toilet block can either be overhauled as a matter of urgency or even completely rebuilt.”
