Mr Ramsay was addressing a packed gathering of 150 at Usk in Bloom’s annual Awards Evening, held at the Glen-yr-Afon Hotel, Usk,  on Sunday.

After presenting awards to winners in the container/hanging basket and sheltered accommodation sections, Mr Ramsay paid tribute to the sterling efforts of the volunteers responsible for ensuring Usk always looked at its best.

“Winning a Gold Award was a huge accolade for the town. It’s not just about the flowers – volunteers have been painting telephone boxes, pillar boxes and litter bins. Usk really did look fantastic, especially for the high point of the year when the Duchess of Cornwall visited the town to see the results.”
