MONMOUTH Assembly Member Nick Ramsay is urging constituents to take advantage of the free help and support available to help keep their energy bills down and their homes warm this winter.
Speaking on Wednesday, Mr Ramsay said:
”With the cost of living rising faster than incomes, winter can be a very challenging time for many households and businesses – but there are a number of simple steps you can take to help keep your fuel bills down.
“One of the best ways to keep energy bills down is to insulate your home. British Gas is currently offering free loft and cavity wall insulation, which is available to 90 per cent of homes. Loft insulation can save up to £145 and cavity wall insulation up to £150 per year.
“It’s also a good idea to shop around and check that you are on the best gas and electricity tariff to suit you. British Gas, for example, informs customers in every bill if they have a better tariff to suit you, as well as offering flexible payment plans.
“You may also be entitled to extra financial support from the Government and your energy supplier if you meet certain criteria. Last year around 550,000 British Gas customers in the UK received the Warm Home Discount – a one off discount of £135 on the electricity bill, rising to £140 this year.
“Energy prices are a worry to many households, but extra help is available if you know where to look for it. I would advise everyone in my constituency to get in touch with their energy supplier to find out just what support is on offer.”
