MONMOUTH Assembly Member Nick Ramsay has welcomed news that a pedestrian guard railing for the footway across the A48 Wye Bridge at Chepstow is set to be constructed either this year or in 2016 and that the route, used by pupils attending Wyedean School, will be considered by the Welsh Government as part of a review on speed limits on all trunk roads in Wales.
Speaking today, Mr Ramsay said:
“Pupils at Wyedean School have worked tremendously hard in petitioning for the speed limit on the bridge to be reduced from 50mph to 30mp and I have raised this issue in the Senedd on a number of occasions.
“I hope pupils will be heartened by the fact that some progress has been made, and that the Government will fully support their call for a speed reduction when their review of trunk roads in carried out.
“It is clear to me that this is a dangerous route for pedestrians and that the sooner the speed limit is reduced, the better.”
