AM welcomes news of speed limits on school routes

MONMOUTH Assembly Member Nick Ramsay has welcomed news from the Welsh Government’s Transport Minister, Edwina Hart AM, that part-time 20mph speed limits are set to be installed at two local schools, following a review of road safety outside schools on the trunk road network.

Speaking on Wednesday, Mr Ramsay said:

“Haberdashers’ Agincourt School and Llanfihangel Crucorney CP School are among the 51 schools in Wales listed in the Government’s programme to install part-time 20mph speed limits, which will be implemented over the next two financial years, subject to ongoing consultation with the schools and pupils

“I am pleased that the Government is at last taking action to reduce the risk children face on their routes to school.

“Residents have long expressed serious concern about the dangers of crossing the busy A40 between Dixton Roundabout and Leasebrook Lane and I have taken the matter up with the Minister on a number of occasions. The safety of children walking to school should be of paramount importance.”
