LOCAL Assembly Member Nick Ramsay has welcomed an announcement by the Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent, Ian Johnston, that several key police stations he re-opened last year will remain open, including Monmouth and Chepstow.
Mr Johnston made his decision to retain public access to Monmouth and Chepstow police stations, as well as Pontypool, Maindee, Risca, Caerphilly and Ystrad Mynach, after reviewing arrangements over the past 12 months and assessing the findings of a number of public surveys together with the feedback from hundreds of public meetings that both he and his team attended.
Speaking on Wednesday, Mr Ramsay said:
“This announcement, which has been welcomed by the Gwent Police and Crime Panel, will I’m sure be much appreciated by members of the public who made it very clear that a previous decision to close front counter services at these local police stations was not want they wanted. They will be reassured to know that their police station front counters will continue to be open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.”
