LOCAL Assembly Member Nick Ramsay has welcomed news from the Welsh Government Minister for Transport, Edwina Hart AM, that two of five options under review to alleviate traffic congestion in Chepstow are being considered this year.
These are improvements at Highbeech roundabout and the prohibition of right turn movements at Bulwark Road junction. The Minister’s officials will model the impact these proposals would have on the area to ensure that improvements to the air quality and the safety of all road users are met. Once the findings of the design work for each option have been received, a decision will be made on whether an option should be progressed to construction.
Commenting on the update, Mr Ramsay said:
“I am pleased that at last some progress is being made. Traffic congestion in Chepstow is a very serious issue, causing gridlock and tailbacks in the town centre. Let’s hope these are the first steps towards an effective solution being found.”
