MONMOUTH Assembly Member Nick Ramsay has written to both Monmouthshire County Council and the Welsh Government’s Minister for Transport, Edwina Hart AM, after receiving complaints from constituents about recent changes to the Blue Badge scheme.
One constituent had his application to renew his Blue Badge refused despite a badge being granted to him for the past 11 years. He also told Mr Ramsay that he believed Port Talbot council had decided not to implement the Blue Badge rule changes.
Speaking on Wednesday, Mr Ramsay said:
”I can well understand that Blue Badge users will be annoyed that their badges are not being renewed after a number of years’ use, especially if this is not the case in other counties in Wales.
“The Minister has stated that her aim is for all applicants for a Blue Badge be treated fairly and consistently regardless of which authority they live in but has admitted that issues with implementation still remain.
“She has asked officials to conduct a rapid review of the current delivery of the Blue Badge scheme, informed by practice in other parts of the UK.
“I look forward to receiving an update on the outcome of this work and hope steps will be taken to ensure all applications are indeed treated fairly and consistently.”
