LOCAL Assembly Member Nick Ramsay has welcomed news that plans are under way to improve access to the railway station at Severn Tunnel Junction for those with disabilities.
Mr Ramsay wrote to Arriva Trains Wales after being contacted by a constituent who was concerned that only one platform at the station was accessible to wheelchair users.
Speaking on Wednesday, Mr Ramsay said:
“I am delighted that Arriva Trains are looking into ways of modifying accessibility at Severn Tunnel Junction. Plans include a fully accessible footbridge with ramps, as well as improvements to the ticket office and enhanced CCTV.
“The work will be delivered by Network Rail and is set to be completed by the beginning of 2016.
“I hope that the proposals go ahead as scheduled so that people with disabilities will soon be able to take full advantage of train services at this junction.”
