LOCAL Assembly Member Nick Ramsay has welcomed news that the Welsh Government Minister for Economy Science and Transport, Edwina Hart AM, has convened a task and finish group to consider revision to the new Blue Badge scheme due to complaints about the large number of applications being turned down.
Mr Ramsay wrote to the Minister some weeks ago to highlight the large amount of correspondence being received from elderly constituents in Monmouthshire whose requests for renewal of Blue Badges held for many years were being turned down.
Speaking today, Mr Ramsay said:
“I am delighted that the Minister is reviewing the new scheme in view of the problems that have come to light.
“In her own words “the scheme must maintain its credibility and meet the needs of those people who would otherwise be unable to access services and facilities”.
“I hope the group carrying out the review will make recommendations on the best way forward very quickly as, in the meantime, many elderly constituents whose Blue Badges have not been renewed are suffering.”
