MONMOUTH Assembly Member Nick Ramsay is supporting Monmouthshire County Councillors who have expressed concern that free swimming sessions for children in the county could be in jeopardy due to cuts being made by the Welsh Government.
Monmouthshire County Council only recently became aware of changes to the free swimming initiative grant, which offered free swimming for children during the holidays and to the over 60s in term time. Monmouthshire faces a cut of 43% in the grant it receives and the Government’s intention is to cut the children’s part of the grant.
Commenting on the proposal, Mr Ramsay said:
“This is typical of the way the Welsh Government treats Monmouthshire County Council. It’s yet another Cardiff cut which means that Monmouthshire has less money to spend on its people, forcing the council to look elsewhere for funding.”
