MONMOUTH Assembly Member Nick Ramsay met Mr Daniel Biddle recently at his Usk office to learn more about the problems facing disabled people when trying to access facilities and services locally in Monmouthshire and further afield.
Mr Biddle now lives in Abergavenny but is confined to a wheelchair.
Speaking today Nick said:
“It was a pleasure to meet Daniel and to hear about the work he is doing to champion disabled access issues. I’ll be raising this topic at the Assembly and pointing out that although there is legislation to promote disabled access, it is not delivering results on the ground.
“I’m also arranging a tour of Abergavenny with Daniel to see for myself the problems that exist for the disabled – simple things such as dropped kerbs that don’t line up and make getting around so difficult for many disabled people.
“By working on strategies to improve accessibility and inclusion I’m sure we can help disabled people find work more easily , increase spending locally by the disabled community and promote our tourist areas of natural beauty. I hope I will be able to help Daniel champion these issues in the coming months.”
