AM receives assurance on A465 noise levels

MONMOUTH Assembly Member Nick Ramsay has been assured by the Welsh Government’s Transport Secretary, Edwina Hart AM, that road noise levels on the A465 opposite the village of Maes y Gwartha should be no worse once the new road has been completed.

Mr Ramsay wrote to the Minister after constituents living in the village directly opposite the Heads of the Valley dualling, expressed concern about noise implications for their properties. Trees on the northern side of the A465 had provided a significant barrier against noise nuisance but a number of these had been removed, resulting in an increase in noise levels.

Speaking on Tuesday, Mr Ramsay said:

“According to the Minister, the completed scheme will include an earthwork bund between Maes y Gwartha and the A465 dual carriageway as mitigation against traffic noise. An Environmental Impact Assessment has confirmed that noise levels for residents will not increase from those currently experienced and in many cases will be reduced.

“I hope residents will be reassured by the Minister’s response and by the technical information they will be receiving from the contractor.

“I will continue to monitor the situation – it is important that full noise mitigation measures are put in place.”
