MONMOUTH Assembly Member Nick Ramsay has requested an urgent update from the Minister for Economy and Transport on the viability of the construction of a new M4 south of Newport.
Speaking in the Chamber on Tuesday, Mr Ramsay said:
“Press reports last week suggested that flaws within the decision-making process now leave the project wide open to judicial review and that as a result the Welsh Government is now privately planning to abandon the scheme.
“Is it the case that the new M4 is about to be scrapped and if so what contingency arrangements are in place to improve traffic flows at peak times?
“Isn’t it a shame that the Welsh Government didn’t listen to calls from so many quarters over many months for the consultation on this route to be re-opened with all options including improvements to the existing motorway and the Blue Route properly on the table.”
