LOCAL Assembly Member Nick Ramsay was excited to hear today of archaeological finds at Commerce House, Monnow Street, Monmouth earlier today.
Nick was alerted to the find by Steve Clarke of Monmouth Archaeology who was concerned that excavations were being undertaken on the site without the knowledge of Monmouthshire County Council.
Speaking today Nick said:
“I was made aware of some concerns about the excavations by Steve Clarke today, but I know that the council has responded quickly and is working with Monmouth Archaeology in an effort to investigate the importance of the site as fully as possible.
“This is another exciting find for Monmouth, and I hope everything possible will be done to prevent the destruction of important archaeological remains in the town. I know the council is working with Mr Clarke to try to prevent this.”
