MONMOUTH Assembly Member Nick Ramsay has contacted the Welsh Government’s Minister for Transport, Edwina Hart AM, to ask if the A40 road adjacent to the War Memorial in Abergavenny town centre could be closed for the Remembrance Day Service in November.
Speaking on Wednesday, Mr Ramsay said:
“My constituents have pointed out that the A40 around the town was closed for long periods during the recent cycling events and they cannot understand why it is not possible to close a small section of the A40 while the Remembrance Day service is taking place so that participants can hear what is being said over the traffic noise.
“They consider that failure to close the road shows disrespect to those who have died in times of conflict.
“I hope the Minister will look favourably on their very reasonable request.”
