AM welcomes improved safety measures for schools on trunk roads

MONMOUTH  Assembly Member Nick Ramsay has welcomed the announcement by Edwina Hart AM, Welsh Government Transport Minister, of a £4.5 million three year programme to improve safety at more than 40 schools across Wales situated on trunk roads.

Following a review, 56 schools were identified ad having potential for road safety improvements. The Minister has just announced that 41 of these schools would receive part time 20mph limits, 3 will have engineering works carried out to improve safety and the remaining 4 will be given further consideration.

Speaking today, Mr Ramsay said:

“I have always supported and called for 20 mph speed limits around schools and welcome this announcement which should make it much safer for children to walk or cycle to school.

“In Monmouthshire I’m delighted that Haberdashers’ Agincourt School is to benefit from an improved crossing point and enhanced verge and that Llanfihangel Crucorney C.P. School will have a pedestrian refuge installed. The sooner the work is carried the better to improve the safety of the pupils and those living nearly.”
