MONMOUTH Assembly Member Nick Ramsay has welcomed news from the Welsh Government that a pedestrian guardrail on the A48 in Chepstow is programmed to be completed during the current financial year.
Mr Ramsay took the matter up with the Welsh Government’s Minister for Transport, Edwina Hart AM, after constituents claimed pedestrians were risking their lives by taking a short cut from the Tesco car park and crossing at the traffic lights on the A48.
Speaking today, Mr Ramsay said:
“I was pleased to hear that the guardrail is to be installed on the footway across the A48 Wye Bridge in the southern verge adjacent to Tesco. Hopefully, this will prevent pedestrians from stepping out into the carriageway and crossing at the Station Road traffic lights to and from the supermarket car park
“However, Chepstow Town Council together with local residents feel strongly that safety would be further improved if a reduced speed limit was put on the bridge.
“I will again take this up with the Government’s Transport Minister.”
