MONMOUTH Assembly Member Nick Ramsay is supporting Monmouthshire’s hard pressed farmers in their struggle with the Welsh Government to receive their payments due under the Basic Payment Scheme at the earliest opportunity.
Not only is there uncertainty about when payments will be made to farmers under the scheme, but there has also been a 5.2 per cent drop on last year’s exchange rate.
Speaking today, Nick said:
“The Welsh Labour Government needs to get its act together and explain exactly when payments will be made to our farmers.
“Monmouthshire’s farmers are at their wits’ end with the dairy and meat industries suffering a dreadful year.
“Welsh Government ministers must do more to help our farming industry. I’m writing to the Minister calling for a change of policy.
“Monmouthshire’s farmers have been let down. My aim is to boost support for our farmers with early access to basic payments.”
