MONMOUTH Assembly Member Nick Ramsay has vowed to keep pressing the Welsh Government to set a start date for the much needed resurfacing work on the A40 between Abergavenny and Raglan.
Speaking today, Mr Ramsay said:
“Local residents have been campaigning for many years for noise mitigation work on this stretch of road and I have repeatedly taken the issue up with the Minister on their behalf.
“I was extremely disappointed by her latest reply in which she stated that she was unable to give an exact forecast of when the work would start – but the current priority list will not be reviewed until after the next noise survey of the motorway and trunk road network is carried out. As this is not programmed to start until 2017, we could be in for a long wait before this work is carried out.
“I fear that the cost of the dualling scheme for the Heads of the Valley has taken up much of the funding that might otherwise have been spent on resurfacing work.
All I can do is to continue to keep up the pressure for all the local residents who have been waiting so patiently for the work to start.”
