MONMOUTH AM Nick Ramsay said he was extremely disappointed to learn that the proposed flood alleviation works near Llanellen Bridge on the A4042 have met with further delay.
In a letter to Mr Ramsay, the Welsh Government Minister for Transport, Edwina Hart AM, said that while the detailed design and works package for the scheme had been completed, the field drainage aspect of the scheme required a land agreement. Negotiations were ongoing with the landlord and tenant, and it was hoped this would be resolved shortly.
In the meantime, diversion routes were being established in case of flooding and were set to be in place by the end of the month.
Commenting on the latest update, Mr Ramsay said:
As my constituents will know I have been pressing the Minister for some time for a resolution to this problem and this latest news is disappointing given that the Minister had previously stated that the work was scheduled to be completed before the onset of this winter.
“Hopefully the land agreement will be completed very soon so that work can finally begin.
“Local people will not want to face another winter of chaos on the roads caused by flooding on the A4042.”
