Save Monmouthshire Campaign Hits Streets of Abergavenny

Local Assembly Member, Nick Ramsay, took his “Save Monmouthshire Campaign” to Abergavenny’s Red Square last Saturday.

Mr Ramsay is campaigning against the Welsh Government’s proposals to abolish Monmouthshire and return to a larger Gwent-style authority.

Once again the petition gained many signatures from local people concerned about the proposal to remove their county from the map.

Speaking today, Nick said:

“It was good to take the “Save Monmouthshire Campaign” to the streets of Abergavenny.

“As expected, local people queued up to sign the petition to save their county.

“I’m completely opposed to the Welsh Government’s plans to abolish Monmouthshire which will entail a loss of local identity and a watering down of local democracy. This is unacceptable to people living here.

“I’m looking forward to taking the campaign and petition to more Monmouthshire High Streets over the weeks and months ahead.”
