2015 has again been a busy and eventful year for me, both personally and as an Assembly Member.
Undoubtedly my biggest and continuing challenge as Assembly Member for Monmouthshire is to campaign against the Welsh Government’s proposals to stop Monmouthshire being merged with neighbouring South East Wales authorities. Since launching my “Save Monmouthshire” petition at the Monmouthshire and Usk Shows in the summer I have been overwhelmed by the strength of support from constituents who share my passion for retaining Monmouthshire’s unique identity. Thousands of people have signed the petition and I look forward to continuing the fight into next year.
Farming is another issue which I will be putting at the forefront of my election campaign in 2016. Many Monmouthshire farmers have found themselves in a desperate situation due to the fall in milk prices and I will continue to press the Welsh Government to take urgent action to put pressure on the supermarkets to pay farmers the going rate for milk.
On a personal note, I was delighted to announce my engagement to Miss Jennifer Davidson and would like to thank everyone who has been kind enough to send us messages of congratulation.
A big thank you too to everyone who has invited me to various events around Monmouthshire during the last year.
Finally, may I take this opportunity to wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous and peaceful New Year.
