AM welcomes Minister’s decision to look into Chepstow link road safety

LOCAL Assembly Member Nick Ramsay welcomed a decision by the Welsh Minister for Transport, Edwina Hart AM, to look at ways of improving safety on the A466 link road at Chepstow following a number of serious accidents and a recent fatality.

Speaking in the Assembly on Wednesday, Mr Ramsay said:

“On October 27th, 2015, one of my constituents, Gerald Russell, was hit by a car and tragically died on the A466 link road. This was the latest of five serious crashes on this stretch of road since 2010. His widow is campaigning for changes to improve safety.“

Mr Ramsay asked the Minister to meet himself and Mrs Russell to discuss a number of options to improve safety, including dualling, installing a safety barrier, reducing the speed limit from 60mph and providing proper parking for commuters car sharing across the Severn Bridge,

“Far too many serious incidents have occurred on this stretch of road, he said.” I am pleased that the Minister has agreed to meet to look into ways of making it safer. “
