Save Monmouthshire Campaign visits Goytre and Govilon

MONMOUTH Assembly Member Nick Ramsay was out and about in Goytre and Govilon recently to gather signatures to his petition to “Save Monmouthshire.”

The petition, which is calling on the Welsh Government to abandon its plans to abolish the county of Monmouthshire as part of its reorganisation proposals for Wales, has been signed by thousands of constituents since its launch in 2015.

Speaking today, Mr Ramsay said:

“I was delighted by the response from local people who share my deep concern about the Welsh Government’s reorganisation proposals.

“Abolishing the county would entail a loss of Monmouthshire’s unique identity and signal a return to the old Gwent-style authority, which was both distant and unpopular.”
