Local Assembly Member for Monmouth, Nick Ramsay AM took up an invitation to spend twenty four hours on board HMS Monmouth, otherwise known as “The Black Duke” when it sailed from Cardiff last Thursday afternoon arriving in Devonport, Plymouth, on Friday afternoon.
Also on board were County Councillor Bob Greenland, Deputy Leader of Monmouthshire County Council and County Councillor John Prosser from Abergavenny.
Speaking today Nick said:
“This short sail to Plymouth with a night on board was a great way to catch up with the crew of HMS Monmouth and learn more about life on board.
“We took part in a number of demonstrations during the trip, including live fire practice and launching of the sea boat.
“The crew are a tribute to the town and their country, and it was a pleasure to join their ranks if only for one day. It was a great trip although a bit rocky around Land’s End!”
