AM Working with Network Rail to Minimise Severn Tunnel Disruption

LOCAL Assembly Member Nick Ramsay is liaising closely with Network Rail over its plans for electrification of the Severn Tunnel which will mean that the tunnel is closed to all rail traffic from midnight on Monday 12th September to midnight on Friday 21st October this year.

Speaking today Nick said:

“Electrification is good news, but this will clearly cause extensive disruption in the short term, particularly for commuters during the six week closure planned for the autumn.

“I’m liaising with Network Rail to try to ensure disruption is minimised, and to make sure alternative transport is in place where needed, and that the work is completed as quickly as possible.

“I fully appreciate the concerns of my constituents who are facing lengthy delays and additional journey times as a result of these improvements. I will be following this situation closely, it’s vital that there is close consultation between Network Rail, train companies and passengers who, let’s face it, are paying high fares for these services.”
