AM Welcomes Police Commissioner Appointment

Local Assembly Member for Monmouth Nick Ramsay has welcomed the appointment of Jeff Cuthbert as the Gwent force area’s new Police and Crime Commissioner.

The former AM for Caerphilly, Mr Cuthbert was formally installed as the new PCC at a ceremony at Police Headquarters in Cwmbran on Thursday 12th May.

Speaking after the event Mr Ramsay said:

“I welcome the installation of Jeff Cuthbert as the new Police and Crime Commissioner.

“This is a vital role that will be key to the way policing develops across Monmouthshire over the next few years.

“The PCC is an important link between the public and their police service. It also provides a valuable scrutiny role.

“I look forward to working with Jeff Cuthbert during his term in office.”

Mr Ramsay also paid tribute to outgoing PCC Ian Johnston who stood down at the recent election.

“I’m sad to see Ian leaving the role.

“As Gwent’s first PCC he was instrumental in helping establish what has been at times a controversial position.

“I’ve appreciated working with Ian and I wish him all the best in the future.”
