MONMOUTH Assembly Member Nick Ramsay has expressed concern that the specialist exercise classes held at Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny have suddenly been cancelled.
Mr Ramsay took the issue up with the Aneurin Bevan Health Board after being contacted by a constituent who told him that her father suffered from emphysema and had found the weekly exercise classes both enjoyable and beneficial. He was understandably dismayed to learn of their sudden cancellation.
Speaking today, Mr Ramsay said:
“I have received a response from the Board saying it had been necessary to suspend the exercise group in response to procedural and governance issues that had been escalated to the Operational Therapy Managers and would need to be reviewed in order to support the safe and robust delivery of the group.
“They say they are very aware of the impact that the decision has had on users and are aiming to resolve the situation as a matter of urgency.
“These classes were obviously of great benefit to people suffering from chronic breathing and heart problems. I hope that the review, which is ongoing, will soon be concluded with a positive outcome and that the classes will be able to start again very soon.”
