Conservatives win majority following council elections:

Local elections held on Thursday 4th May have resulted in the Conservatives winning 25 of the 43 available seats on Monmouthshire County Council. This means that the Conservative Party will form the next administration of the council.

The Labour Party was the second largest group with ten seats followed by independents with five and the Liberal Democrats with three.

AM congratulates new county chairman

MONMOUTH  Assembly Member Nick Ramsay has congratulated County Councillor Brian Strong on taking over as the new Chairman of Monmouthshire County Council at a ceremony held at County Hall on Tuesday.

Speaking after the ceremony, Mr Ramsay said:

“Brian will be a first class Chairman and will have the able support of Jim Higginson, the new Vice Chairman. As a long serving councillor and former Mayor of Usk, Brian is a well known and respected figure in the local community. Monmouthshire will assuredly be in safe hands under his stewardship.

“I wish him every success.”
