AM welcomes Minister’s decision on Chepstow’s A466 Link Road

LOCAL Assembly Member Nick Ramsay has welcomed a decision by the Welsh Government’s Transport Minister, Edwina Hart AM, to ask officials to undertake a study of the A466 link road at Chepstow following a series of serious accidents and a recent fatality.

The Minister has also agreed to meet Mr Ramsay and Mrs Russell, whose husband Gerald was tragically died after being hit by a car on the link road and who is campaigning to improve safety.

Speaking today, Mr Ramsay said:

“I am pleased that the Minister has at last commissioned a study of the A466 leading from the roundabout to junction 2 of the M48. There have been at least five serious accidents on this stretch of road since 2010, including one car crash involving five cars. In 2013 two people were killed in a head on collision, with Mr Russell tragically the most recent fatality last October.

“Far too many serious incidents have occurred on this stretch of road. I am pleased that the Minister has agreed to look into options to make it safer.”

AM Continues to Press Minister for Progress on Flood Alleviation Work

MONMOUTH Assembly Member Nick Ramsay has again chased the Transport Minister, Edwina Hart AM, for news on when the flood alleviation work at Llanellen Bridge is likely to begin.

Speaking today, Mr Ramsay said:

“The Minister initially indicated that the work would be carried out before this winter, but delay has been caused by agreeing legal matters with the tenant and landowner.

“The Minister has informed me this week that a Memorandum of Agreement has been agreed with the tenant and that the agreement of the landowner is awaited.

“Fortunately, the temporary traffic lights that were in place on the A4042 due to the high water levels in the area have been removed for the time being, and I hope it will not be necessary for them to be reinstated again this winter.

“I will continue to keep a close eye on the situation in the hope that the work needed to prevent future flooding will soon be underway.”

AM Receives Update on Road Closures for A465 Dualling Scheme

MONMOUTH Assembly Member Nick Ramsay has received an update from Edwina Hart AM, the Welsh Government Minister for Transport, concerning the A465 Section 2 Gilwern to Brynmawr dualling scheme.

The Minister has explained there will be a temporary road closure on both the eastern and western sides of the Glanbaiden Roundabout at Gilwern beginning today until April 2016. Diversionary routes will be in place and a shuttle bus service will be provided so that local people can stay connected with local bus services.

Speaking today, Mr Ramsay said:

“The Minister has informed me that the police, emergency services, local Authority and Trunk Road Agent have all been consulted about the road closures and are apparently content . Further information about the closures are being advertised via the project website and by email to all those on the project database.

“I fully appreciate that this lengthy road closure will undoubtedly cause some inconvenience to local people. I will be happy to pass on details of any serious problems arising from the temporary closure direct to the Minister should constituents wish to contact me with any concerns.”
